Basketball: Warriors pull away to beat Jazz

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for three three-pointers in the final 58 seconds of the first half to help the Golden State Warriors pull away from the Utah Jazz on the way to a 115-94 victory.

Curry (three) and Thompson (five) combined for eight three-pointers in the game, giving them an even 500 for the season as the Warriors (57-6) won their 27th in a row at home this season and 46th straight at Oracle Arena dating back to last January.

The overall home winning streak is an ongoing NBA record.

Curry finished with 12 points but Thompson poured in 23, Draymond Green had 17 and center Marreese Speights came off the bench to provide an additional 16, helping Golden State clinch a season-series win over the Jazz with a third consecutive win.

Despite playing for a second consecutive night, Utah (29-35) hung tight for the first 23 minutes before Golden State's last-minute flurry in the first half created the game's first double-digit margin.

Curry, who entered the game having made at least one three-pointer in a record 132 straight games, missed his first four attempts from beyond the arc until finally connecting nearly 21 minutes into the game.

Meanwhile, the Warriors struggled to retain a 43-41 lead into the final minute of the first half before Curry connected from 26 feet and Thompson from 29 feet in a six-point flurry that quickly ballooned the lead to eight.

After Joe Ingles missed a three-point attempt at the Utah end with 6.2 seconds left in the half, Curry grabbed the rebound, headed toward midcourt and let fly with from just beyond the line.

The shot banked in, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and capped the 9-0 run that produced a 52-41 advantage.

The Warriors went on to earn a 10th win in their past 11 meetings with the Jazz, but it was a struggle for the better part of three quarters.

In fact, the frustration of their early difficulties boiled over into technical fouls on Andrew Bogut, Curry and Andre Iguodala.

Golden State finally put the Jazz at arm's length with another quarter-ending run, this one in the third period.

Utah was within 10 at 68-59 before Warriors backup guard Leandro Barbosa had seven points and Speights five in a 13-4 spurt to close the third quarter and create an 18-point cushion entering the final period.

Backup guard Trey Burke hit eight straight free throws to highlight an 18-point night for the Jazz, who have lost seven of eight after a 28-28 start.

Utah fell three games behind the Houston Rockets (32-32) in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Gordon Hayward added 16 points, but missed 10 of his 15 shots as the Jazz shot just 40.5% from the field. The Warriors, meanwhile, connected at a 57.1% clip.

Kemba leads Hornets past Pelicans

Kemba Walker scored 35 points to lead seven Charlotte players in double figures, and the Hornets won their fifth straight with a 122-113 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Hornets withstood a two-man assault from the Pelicans' Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, who combined for 78 points. Davis finished with 40 points and 13 rebounds, and Holiday added 38 points and six assists.

The Hornets led by as many as 17 in the first half and never trailed, but they had to pull away again after the Pelicans rallied for a 109-109 tie with 3:19 left.

Walker's fall-away jumper with 2:51 gave Charlotte the lead for good, and then he tacked on four free throws on the Hornets' next two possessions. His 3-pointer with 26.2 seconds pushed the lead to nine and settled the outcome for good.

Celtics extend home winning streak

The Boston Celtics roared to their 14th straight home victory, erupting for 31 points, including 16 by Isaiah Thomas, in the third quarter and routing the depleted Memphis Grizzlies 116-96.

The home winning streak is Boston's longest since an 18-gamer in 1990-91. The Celtics (39-26) have won 17 of their last 22 games overall.

Pistons claim important road win

Detroit center Andre Drummond bullied Dallas for 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Pistons to an important 102-96 road win over the struggling Mavericks.

All five Detroit starters scored in double figures as the surging Pistons (33-31) moved into a virtual tie with the limping Chicago Bulls for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

In a game that was tight throughout, Drummond and the Pistons used an 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to go ahead 92-83.

Dallas, which got 25 points and five assists from forward Chandler Parsons, including a driving dunk to cut the deficit to 93-89, still couldn't avoid dropping its fourth consecutive game, a season high.

Westbrook triple-doubles in win

Russell Westbrook posted 25 points, 20 assists and 11 rebounds to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 120-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was Westbrook's 11th triple-double of the season. He is now tied with Golden State's Draymond Green for the NBA lead.

Westbrook is only the third player in the last 30 years to have a triple-double with at least 20 points and 20 assists and 10 rebounds.

Kevin Durant scored 30 and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Thunder. It was his seventh straight double-double, the longest streak of his career. It was also his fourth straight game of at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. Serge Ibaka added 15 points as the Thunder improved to 44-20.

Jeff Green paced the Clippers with 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting. JJ Redick added 22 points and Chris Paul tallied 12 points and 16 assists as they dropped to 41-22.

Kyrie, LeBron combine for 55 in win

Kyrie Irving scored 30 points, and LeBron James added 25 points and 11 rebounds to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 120-111 win over the Sacramento Kings.

James, making his final appearance at Sleep Train Arena before Sacramento opens a new facility, grabbed four of his rebounds on the offensive glass, the last one leading to a four-point play when Kevin Love nailed a 3-pointer while fouled by Sacramento's Darren Collison.

That extended the Cavaliers' lead to 115-108, and JR Smith put the contest away with a 3-pointer on Cleveland's next possession.

James' 3-pointer also kick-started a 13-4 fourth-quarter run that helped hold off the Kings in the arena where he made his NBA debut on October 29, 2003.

James played 37 minutes and added six assists as the Cavaliers (45-18) rebounded from an 106-103 loss to the short-handed Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
