In a move to placate the tourists after a plastic bottle was directed at Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan in the final over of that match, NZC is discussing a range of measures to ensure the players are not placed at risk for the remainder of the tour.
The implementation of a three-row exclusion zone - designed to prevent patrons launching projectiles on the field - is likely in Wellington when the second match of the one-day series is held on Friday.
The numbers of security staff patrolling the boundary and stands will also be beefed up.
An NZC spokesman yesterday said enhanced security measures might differ, depending on the venue.
NZC management will determine today what might be appropriate for McLean Park in Napier, the venue of the first one-dayer tomorrow, after discussing the matter with Central Districts Cricket Association officials.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said it was unfortunate the cordoned off rows might be required again because the organisation preferred the fans to be as close as possible to the playing arena, although there could be no repeat of last Friday's incident.
Buffer zones were used at some venues when England toured here last year, and again for the one-dayers against the West Indies earlier this summer.
The England Lions (formerly England A) dominated the first day of the four-day match against New Zealand A at the Queenstown Events Centre yesterday.
When rain stopped play 37 overs into the match, former international batsman Robert Key and opening partner Stephen Moore had put on a unbeaten 123-run stand for the first wicket.
Key was on 79, with his 50 coming off just 61 balls, and Moore was on 42, continuing his impressive run with the bat after scoring 75 last week against the New Zealand Emerging Players team at Lincoln.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl on a typically uneven surface, New Zealand A opening bowlers Trent Boult and James Franklin managed to get through to stumps with economical figures, as did Brent Arnel, but the missing statistic for all the bowlers was in the wicket column.
The match continues today at 10am.
