Germany continued its dominance of international football - sweeping the All Whites in three ''mini internationals''.
The ''Germans'' won all three of the matches against the ''All Whites'' at the Otago Daily Times Mini World Cup at Kettle Park on Saturday.
A cool breeze, blue skies and temperatures reaching 12degC made conditions ideal.
More than 740 children represented about 80 teams during the tournament, Football South football development manager Shane Carvell said.
''It went really well,'' he said.
''It was a great day.''
Players aged from 6-8 represented their clubs, with some getting the call-up for international honours.
Germany won the 8 Grade 3-1, the 7 Grade 2-0 and the 6 Grade 2-1.
While the results were close, the outcome was ''probably fitting'', Mr Carvell said.
''They won the men's Fifa World Cup, hence it's fitting that they took out the three games I guess.''
About 1500 supporters watched the ''great little festival''.
''I thought it was fantastic,'' Mr Carvell said.
''In the next 10 years we have some really good talent in our region coming through.''
It was the eighth time the tournament had been held and the number of players and supporters was ''getting up there'', he said.
''It's a great way to have the finale of the winter season.''
It was particularly heartening to see the number of all-girl teams playing, he said.
It boded well for the future development of the women's game.
