Golf: Croudis to do job in interim

Duncan Croudis is to take on some of the tasks of golf development officer during the next six weeks until Michael Ormandy returns from the Rugby World Cup in mid-November.

Ormandy was appointed to the job last week but had already booked a a trip to the World Cup.

He offered to cancel the trip but it was agreed he could go and Croudis would step in and do the job in the interim.

Croudis (23) has been a teacher aide at Balmacewen Intermediate but will now assist Golf Otago during this busy tournament and representative season.

He will be responsible for the organised school holiday programmes, draws and pin sheets for trial events and running active family golf sessions.

Croudis will be mentored by former development officer Michael Smith, who now works for Taylormade and is out of Dunedin for most of his working week.

The former Otago Boys' High School pupil will also be responsible for listing the senior and junior order of merits which are crucial at this time with teams being selected.

Croudis will not return to Balmacewen Intermediate when Ormandy returns to take up the role fulltime but will concentrate on his golf game leading up to the interprovincial tournament at Otatara in Invercargill in December.

''I want to be in my best form by then as I intend to go to stage one qualifying school in Brisbane,'' he said.

''All going well, I will go on to stage two in Melbourne with the hope of gaining a tour card.''

Croudis played at No 1 for Otago in the interprovincial tournament in Hamilton last year and won the 36-hole trial tournament at Chisholm Links last month.
