Otago University continued a remarkable fightback on Saturday, winning its third game in a row after a difficult start to the season.

University beat Kia Toa Tigers 28-20 in a tight game in which a howling southerly and intermittent rain made for tough conditions at the Oval.

Their wins have turned around a year in which they lost their first five games, and stand them in better stead as they approach the last third of the season.

University were ahead after the first half with the strong wind at their backs, and worked hard in the second to maintain the lead, running into the wind.

University fullback Ben Loughrey Webb played his last game after nine years with the team, and ran from dummy half to dot down for University's last try.

His try sealed the win, despite Kia Toa launching attack after attack on the University line.

The season will take a two week hiatus over the university holidays, before beginning again on July 2.
