Not only was it the biggest winning margin in the history of the New Zealand Rally Championship, Paddon also set records on all 16 of the gravel special stages and became the first driver to win the Dunedin-based event five times.
The Kiwi international demonstrated why he is at present placed fifth in the World Rally Championship and was his usual humble self when reflecting on his commanding performance.
"We were just doing our own thing.
"Obviously, we had a bit of an advantage with the clear roads and no dust,'' he said of his position as first car on the road.
Last year, Paddon and his co-driver John Kennard wowed the crowds by taking a 1970s Ford Escort to overall victory and while this year's result eclipsed even that achievement, it was not all hard work.
"This is the most fun I've had in a rally car for a long time,'' he said.
Rally spokesman Roger Oakley was thrilled Paddon had once again made a lasting impression on the huge crowds that lined the stages to the north and south of the city.
"It's something that will be talked about for a long time.
"It adds to the fantastic record that Hayden has had at this event,'' he said.
