University-Albion A came into form in the premier grade at the weekend, making easy work of Phys Ed A to win 62-44.

Uni-Albion settled into a rhythm early in the match, with straight line passes down the court and its shooters finding good space in the circle.

Its defensive end put huge pressure on the Phys Ed attackers and they struggled to penetrate the circle edge.

Wing defence Gemma Cowie made a nuisance of herself on defence, getting her hands to a lot of ball and making it difficult for the Phys Ed feeders.

She teamed well with the defensive duo of Samara Hollows and captain Sarah Cox, who were tireless in the circle. By quartertime, Uni-Albion held a 15-10 lead and Phys Ed brought on Kirsten Craig at goal attack.

An impressive intercept from Uni-Albion goal defence Hollows and a lay up from goal attack Bridget Thayer at the other end of the court extended its lead to nine.

Phys Ed centre Lucy Heenan and goal defence Libby Drake were forced to do a mountain of work to bring the ball down the court and were often left with fee options.

At halftime, the lead was out to 10 goals and Phys Ed injected replacement player Anna Parsons into goal keep, and Chloe Austin into the midcourt.

Parsons settled into the defensive end and was not afraid to go out of the circle hunting for intercepts.

By the end of the third quarter, the score had blown out to 49-31 and the game was all but lost for Phys Ed.

Frustration crept into Phys Ed's game and it seemed the harder it tried, the worse it got.

It did however show glimpses of promise at times, passing the ball down the court with speed and feeders sending some long bombs into the shooters.

Uni-Albion coach Noeline Scott said her team had suffered a scare from South Otago High School during the week and was proud of the belief it had shown to come back from that.

We played as a whole unit, she said.

In the other game at the weekend, College beat Southern Magpies 61-55. The game between Southern Tui and South Otago High School has been rescheduled.
