Logan Park High

Pupils have been involved in everything from dodgeball to orienteering.

Shae Moore continues to shine in representative football and will travel to Ireland in July with the Otago team for the SuperCup NI 2016, formerly known as the Milk Cup.

Cricket captain David Spencer scored an unbeaten 200 in the last game of the season against King's. The team was second overall in the premier league of the secondary cricket competition.

In orienteering, Alice McNoe is the senior girls champion in the Dunedin schools' summer series.

Jonty Howell was named male bowler of the tournament after competing in the South Island secondary schools' singles in Christchurch.

Sailors Molly Barton and Anna Walrond competed in the South Island schools Sunburst regatta in the silver division last week and impressed with their tenacity.

The senior A girls volleyball team attended the South Island satellite tournament in Christchurch. The side has improved dramatically from last season.

In tennis, Dylan Deans-Bennett and David Spencer made the final of the premier tennis league and play the final this week.

Three senior futsal teams will compete in finals tomorrow. In volleyball, both senior boys and girls teams have won the senior social divisions. Junior volleyball teams have played well this season, winning most of their games.

In water polo, teams played off for third place in the Dunedin competition last week.

In athletics, Jacob Gosling was third in the shot put in the Otago-Southland finals, after having won the Otago title in March.

King's High School

The culmination of the athletics season was the South Island schools championships in Timaru.

A squad of 30 athletes brought home 12 first placings, seven second placings and three third placings.

Highlights were the under-19 4 x 400m and under-14, under-16 and under-19 4 x100m relay teams winning their races.

The under-14 team of Flynn Murdoch, Keanu Vanisi, Gregor Clarkson and Duncan Trevithick broke the meet record and the under-16 team of Josiah Lesa, Max Aitcheson, Max Addis and Sam Gouveneur equalled the meet record.

Flynn and Duncan were first and second in the under-14 80m hurdles, George Bates won the under-14 1500m, Jamie Crossland won the under-16 shot put, Sam won the under-16 800m and Felix McDonald won the under-19 long jump.

Josiah Lesa was first in the under-16 100m and 110m hurdles. Alex Brown was first in the open 3000m walk.

Last weekend, year 13 boys Silas Kemp and Nelson Mears competed at Papamoa in the IRB national under-21 event. For first-time competitors, their bronze medal placing was an outstanding effort.

King's senior A softball team has defended its South Island schools title, beating James Hargest 7-4 in a tense final in Invercargill, where it remained unbeaten during the week.

East Otago High School

East Otago High School sent eight pupils to the South Island schools athletics championships in Timaru. Jamie Church and Nicole McLeod both gained personal bests in the hammer throw, along with Anna Lindsay in the javelin.

Hayley Jenkinson injured herself with her first throw of the javelin, but still managed to place second.

The futsal team has gone from seventh place last year to playing off for third and fourth. Kayle Harris has been the side's standout performer, scoring all but one of its goals this season.

The equestrian team has been training hard and will be competing in an interschool dressage and showjumping event, held by the Palmerston & Waihemo A&P Association, later in the month.

EOHS will end the term with a sports exchange against Tokomairiro High School at the Edgar Centre, as well as the annual cross-country and fun run organised by the year 12 physical education class.

Maniototo Area School

Winter sports are due to start, and the number of pupils participating is high this year.

Pupils are looking forward to attending the Southern Area Schools tournament in Lawrence at the start of term two. The Otago schools athletics championships were attended by Doug Smith, Fletcher Dowling, Keagan Mulholland, Levi Menzies and Dante Devitt. Doug was second in high jump and third in triple jump.

The Otago-Southland schools athletics was held in Dunedin and attended by Fletcher, who was placed third in high jump,and Doug, who was second in the high jump and third in the triple jump.

Fletcher and Doug both went to Timaru for the South Island school championships. Doug was third in high jump. The pair are grateful for the coaching received from former pupil and 1990 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tania Murray.

Will Becker, Blake Anderson and Damian Carson went to play in the interschool golf tournament at Otago Golf Club. The extra practice paid off for Damian, who was first earlier this month at the Ranfurly Golf Club with 87 off the stick.

Pupils played in the Maniototo Curling international doubles tournament last month. Youth Olympians and national junior team members Matthew Neilson and Ben Smith finished in the top four in their pool, as did fellow Youth Olympian Courtney Smith and partner Anton Hood, who went through to be runner-up in the tournament.

Taieri College

The Taieri College athletic team that qualified for South Island championships in Timaru had a very successful weekend.

Zharna Beattie won the under-14 girls discus with a record throw of 36.24m. Hamish Mears won the under-15 shot put and was second in the under-15 discus. Hannah Ashton was second in the under-15 girls high jump and Tayla Cramond was third.

Matt Cramond was third in senior boys high jump and the under-15 girls relay team finished second.

The Taieri College touch team travelled for the first time to Christchurch to compete in the South Island tournament and finished seventh overall in the mixed grade.

Taieri College had a budding team of four rowers at Maadi Cup and all performed well above expectations. Hayley Budd qualified in the B final of the under-16 girls singles in her first year of rowing. Hayley and Grace Gallivan also made the B final of the under-16 girls novice doubles.

Danya Kerr and Grace raced in the under-16 open doubles, achieving some excellent times. Jesse Kerr competed in the under-18 boy's grade which is hotly contested and made finals in both the under-18 and under-17 single scull categories.

The annual summer interchange with South Otago took place on Wednesday. Wins went to SOHS in theatresports, touch and first XI cricket, while Taieri took the junior cricket, tennis and volleyball. The overall result was a draw.

Otago Girls' High School

It has been a busy time for all sporting codes.

Girls have been competing in volleyball, yachting, rowing, canoe polo, and water polo. Others have participated in a variety of sports events.

Lucy Matehaere won bronze at the national surf life-saving championships at Ohope Beach in the under-16 women's ski race. Sophie Dikstra, Morgan Whitson, Molly McCall and Jade Middleditch played in the Auckland City under-17 youth football championships.

The school is very proud of its volleyballers and congratulates the OGHS Sirens who defeated the OGHS B team 3-0 in the final of the Otago schools volleyball championships.

It has been a big season for school athletes who have had wonderful results in the Otago, Otago-Southland and South Island athletic championships.

The following are the highlights from the Otago-Southland competition: Rebecca Hill, third under-14 400m; Storm Maole, second under-15 shot put, second under-15 javelin, second under-15 hammer; Xanthe Maole, fifth under-14 shot put, second under-14 hammer; Hannah Matehaere, fifth under-14 100m, 1st 400m; Gemma Millar, third under-16 shot put, fourth under-16 javelin, fifth discus, third hammer; Sophie Miller, fourth under-14 400m, fifth hammer; Caitlin O'Donnell, second under-14 1500m, fifth 800m; Emily Paine, fourth under-16 100m, fourth under-16 200m; Tahlia Roome, third under-15 800m; Jenna Thorne, first under-16 800m, 1500m; Taylor Thorne, first under-16 triple jump, first high jump, fifth 200m; Emma Ward, fifth senior 100m; Katie Wong fourth 80m hurdles.

Roxburgh Area School

The past few weeks have been busy, with a visit from the Otago rugby coaches who worked with both senior and younger players. Tory Dougherty, from Otago Hockey, was also at the school coaching for a day.

Congratulations to Daniel Arnesen, who has been selected in the Otago under-16 golf team.

Haidyn Pringle represented Roxburgh Area School at the Otago swimming championships in Dunedin.

Most of the senior school is in full practice for the southern area school tournament in Lawrence at the beginning of term two, when they will take part in rugby, netball, basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, hockey, dodgeball, Ki O Rahi, indoor bowls, tech challenge, theatre sports, golf, orienteering, chess and clay bird shooting.

St Hilda's Collegiate School

Ten St Hilda's athletes competed at the South Island schools athletics championships in Timaru, achieving some great results.

There was one first placing, one second and five third placings, with Sarah Langsbury performing extremely well in all her events.

St Hilda's rowing won gold in the under-15 coxed quadruple sculls. silver in the under-18 lightweight double and bronze in the under-17 and under-15 double at the South Island secondary schools championships.

Kiriana Hunter has represented Otago, playing in the under-16 tennis team.

Anaia Wiparata won gold (under-21 single rescue) and silver (under-21 mass rescue), competing for St Clair at the surf rescue national championships.

Izzy Gold and Natalie Hutchens competed for Otago at the New Zealand division II swimming championships. Izzy won gold in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 200m freestyle relay and silver in the 200m medley relay. Natalie won silver in the 200m freestyle relay.

The St Hilda's A touch team was second at the South Island schools championships in Christchurch, and now turns its attention to the New Zealand championships in Auckland in December.

Abbey Johnston, Olivia O'Neill, Jessica Faulks and Biddi Johnstone have been invited to trial for the New Zealand under-18 touch team and Beryn Abbott has been invited to the New Zealand elite touch youth academy.

At the South Island schools water polo championships St Hilda's was second.

John McGlashan College

The JMC athletics squad had large numbers at the Otago and Otago-Southland athletics championships. The squad's ultimate target was the South Island championships. The team had four wins there: Nico Bowering won the under-15 100m and 200m as well as the under-15 relay with Dominic Morrison, Johnny Baker and Andrew McKenzie.

Nathan Harrison won the under-14 high jump, George Hope missed first place by 7cm in the senior javelin and Dominic was second in the under-14 400m. Nathan placed third in the under-14 800m. Leroy Ferguson threw well to place third in the under-15 shot put and Johnny Baker was third in the under-15 400m.

The rowing squad prepared well for Maadi Cup with a 22-medal haul at the South Island regatta.

Sailor Henry South finished third in the NZ Bic Cup in Nelson recently. Lachlan Kenneally has also enjoyed recent success, winning the under-16 Otago tennis championships. Rugby kicked off its season when it hosted an Australian side from Rockhampton Grammar.

Dunstan High School

Dunstan High School sent a squad of 29 away to the South Island secondary schools rowing championships at Ruataniwha this year, where it gained two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

The kayak squad has also experienced recent success at the New Zealand secondary schools kayaking champs in Hawea, winning the national co-ed schools secondary trophy and coming away with seven gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.

The athletics team has had a busy schedule in recent weeks competing in the Otago, Otago-Southland and South Island athletics champs over the past month.

The team achieved some fantastic results with 10 firsts, five seconds and four thirds at the Otago championships, three firsts, 10 seconds and five thirds at the Otago-Southland championships and three firsts, two seconds and three thirds at the South Island championships.

The first XI cricket team finished its season with a loss to St Kevins College in the First XI Cup. The team performed admirably throughout the seasonand some talented players made the step up to first XI level this year.

The volleyball squad finished third in pool play at the Otago champs.
