Racing: Auckland to host the Interdominion

The transfer of the Interdominion series from Christchurch to Auckland was confirmed yesterday, a sequel of the earthquake last week.

The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will continue to host the series commencing on March 25 as a tenant at Alexandra Park.

The stake for the final of the pacing series on April 8 has been reduced by $250,000 to $750,000. The trotters' final remains at $250,000.

The members grandstand at Addington was yesterday declared by engineers as unsuitable for use.

Shane Gloury, the chief executive officer of the NZMTC, said it could take a week or three months to repair.

The NZMTC held a conference call yesterday with the Interdominion events committee and the Auckland Trotting Club.

The NZMTC had hoped to receive an assurance of hosting the Interdominion in 2013 but this was not forthcoming.

Fixed-dividend bets with the New Zealand TAB have to be refunded because of the venue change.

Alexandra Park commentator George Simon has offered the job of calling the Interdominion races to Addington caller Mark McNamara.

The New Zealand Derby, Trotting Derby, Trotting Oaks and Sales Series Fillies Pace will be re-scheduled in Canterbury.

Mr Feelgood is a late nomination for the $400,000 Auckland Cup on Friday week at a fee of $4000. He has entered the market at $7. He will remain for the Interdominion.
