A dashing trial win last week indicated a bold bid from The Harrier in her return to racing at Blenheim today. The Harrier won an 800m trial by six lengths at Rangiora 10 days ago when tried in blinkers.

She has been freshened by trainer Paul Harris since she last raced on March 26 and will wear blinkers today. She is racing over 1000m in race 2.

The 3yr-old filly has won at Ashburton (1200m), Reefton (1020m) and Greymouth (1100m) this season on good tracks.

"I tried her over 1400m in the listed races for 3yr-olds but she didn't manage the distance," Harris said.

Kylie Williams, who has ridden The Harrier in her three wins, has the mount today.

Keepitinthefamily, a stablemate of The Harrier, rates highly in race 6. He has finished second over 1800m at Riccarton and 1600m at Greymouth in his last two starts.

He also won a trial at Rangiora. The Intergaze 6yr-old won over 1950m, the distance today, at Waterlea two years ago in the hands of Chris Johnson, who has the mount today.

Blast Out, Thargomindah, Crystal Habit, Italian Piccolo (race 1), Lord Cavendish (race 3) and Noble Court (race 6) are other winners from the Rangiora trials engaged today. Zeddane, who won an open 1400m at the Marlborough meeting 12 months ago, is in form to repeat the effort today.

• Kevin Myers, the Turakina trainer, was last night resigned to scratching his 14-horse team at the Marlborough meeting today.

"I am still at home with the horses and there is one last chance of a crossing [Cook Strait] at 3am," Myers said last night. "I am not hopeful. The sea has been so rough."

Myers has been waiting since Monday night to transport his team by sea from Wellington to Picton.

"I will still go for the second day of the Marlborough meeting on Sunday if I can get a crossing," he said.

Myers had to scratch eight horses from the meeting at Riccarton on April 9 when he was unable to secure a Cook Strait crossing due to rough conditions.

Myers has Soph, Sparking, Conserves La Foi and Valentina Rossi in a 10-horse field for the Marlborough Cup Prelude today.

Alpine Heights is a definite starter, trainer John Parsons said last night. He was left without a rider with Buddy Lammas unable to make the weight.
