Racing: Ashburton on today

The Ashburton Racing Club meeting abandoned after one race on Saturday will be held today.

Following Tallyho Tui's win in the open event, several riders reported issues with their horses' footing, particularly between the 900m and 700m marks.

A track inspection was made by stipendiary stewards, trainers, rider representatives, club officials and the Judicial Control Authority and, after hearing from those who inspected the track, the JCA ruled the track was unsafe to continue racing.

All eight of the remaining races from Saturday have been rescheduled for today, with the first race to be run at 12.10pm.

As a result of the rescheduling, the Doncaster Turf Club trial meeting scheduled for Ashburton today will not be held.

Alternative options for a trials meeting are being looked into, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing said on its website.
