Stallion put down

Yamanin Vital, the successful sire, was put down at White Robe Lodge, North Taieri, on Monday night after an obstruction of his bowel.

"He became uneasy on Sunday and his condition deteriorated. The problem was inoperable," Brian Anderton, the proprietor of White Robe, said.

Yamanin Vital was 19.

The son of Sir Tristram-She Might Hula was imported by the stud in 1997 after he had won five races in Japan.

He won over 2000m in 1.59.6.

Yamanin Vital sired the group one winners Cluden Creek (2004 Wellington Cup) and Cut The Cake (2003 NZ Derby).

Others sired by Yamanin Vital included Trebla (NZ Cup and Canterbury Gold Cup), Requisite (Eclipse Stakes at Moonee Valley), Rosa Marada (Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford), Hypnotize (dual Great Northern Steeplechase) and the Grand National Hurdle winners, Counter Punch and Yourtheman.
