Rugby: Alhambra-Union triumphs in tight tussle with Harbour

A last-minute penalty goal by Peter Breen gave Alhambra-Union a narrow win over Harbour at the North Ground.

It was a game that Alhambra-Union should have sewn up before this but a series of mistakes almost cost it the game.

Highlander Kurt Baker, playing at fullback, had a superb first half and created scoring opportunities for Alhambra-Union.

Alhambra-Union continued to bungle its scoring opportunities in the second spell despite strong displays by No 8 Graeme Cashmore and prop Scott Manson.

Credit must be given to a rugged Harbour defence that was spearheaded by loose forwards Angus Duckett and Hadley May and lock Brad Griffiths.

May scored the only try of the game midway through the second spell, to put Harbour into the lead.

Alhambra-Union 12 (Peter Breen 4 pen), Harbour 10 (Hadley May try; Craig Sneddon con, pen). Halftime: Alhambra-Union 6-3.
