Edwards (20) was a loan player for South Canterbury and played a significant role in helping the side reach the final of the Lochore Cup against Buller.
Edwards was one of five players who scored 100 points in the 10-game competition and topped the poll with 144 points.
He was followed by Glen Walters (Wairarapa Bush) 134, Marty Banks (Buller) 125, John Semple (East Coast) 110 and Dave Harrison (Thames Valley) 100.
Edwards scored 10 tries, kicked 29 conversions and 12 penalty goals.
He is noted for his ability to land long-range goals and one of his successful penalty kicks was from 62m.
Edwards is noted for his speed on the counterattack and used it to score 10 tries in the competition.
He was followed by Adam Ross (Poverty Bay) 6, Saul Chase (Wanganui), 6 and Siegfried Fisiihoi (East Coast) 6.
Buller beat South Canterbury 31-28 in a closely fought final at Westport and Edwards scored 23 of South Canterbury's points - two tries, two conversions and three penalty goals.
Edwards could not be contacted by the Otago Daily Times yesterday.
Edwards is the son of Bruce Edwards, who played more 100 premier games for Pirates at fullback and regularly topped 100 points in a season, Edwards was a member of the Otago Boys' High School first XV and topped 200 points in the Highlanders First XV competition in 2010.
He has been fullback or wing in the Dunedin premier team for the past two years and has been a prolific points-scorer in premier club rugby.
In his first year in 2011, Edwards scored 193 points and this year scored 199 points.
This included 11 tries.
