Big, strong No 8 Lafaele Faamoe played a dominant role for Southern when it outplayed Alhambra-Union 56-32 at North Ground.
He scored two tries himself and made two others with his aggressive bursts upfield with the ball in hand.
His best try came after 10 minutes in the second spell when his hard tackling stopped an Alhambra-Union attack in its tracks at halfway.
He grabbed the loose ball and scooted down field for 50m.
He was also adept at taking the ball ahead of the advantage line from the set pieces.
Alhambra-Union was dominant early and led 11-5 after 18 minutes in the first spell.
But Southern opened the floodgates after this and scored 31 unanswered points in the next 30 minutes to lead 42-11.
Other players to impress for Southern were blindside flanker Sam Crompton and lock Tom Franklin who dominated the lineouts.
The best of the Southern backs was Jonnie Hughes with his ability on the counter-attack.
Alhambra-Union first five-eighth Peter Breen had his kicking boots on and landed five goals to score 12 points.
