Rugby: Breen's kicking gives Al-Union the lead

Quick-thinking first five-eighth Peter Breen played a key role in Alhambra-Union's win at Montecillo.

His two neat tactical kicks led to tries by Colin Davies and Ben Qauqau in the first 10 minutes. He added two penalty goals to give Alhambra-Union an 18-7 lead at halftime.

Locks Michael Colville and Ben Traill dominated the lineout in the first 30 minutes and this enabled Breen to dictate the game.

But the last 10 minutes of the first spell and the first 25 minutes of the second spell belonged to a strong Zingari-Richmond pack that dominated possession.

No 8 Chris Bell ignited the Colours' comeback when he intercepted a pass and ran 40m for a try.

Other key players in the Zingari pack were prop Chris Preddy and hooker Masiu Akavola, who dominated the scrum and were effective in the tight-loose.

Zingari had the chance to win the game when it had six scrums inside the Alhambra-Union 22m in the second half, but Alhambra-Union did not flinch.

Alhambra-Union 21 (Ben Qauqau, Colin Davies tries; Peter Breen, con, 3 pen)
Zingari-Richmond 17 (Chris Bell, Steve Roberts tries; Shaun Driver 2 con, pen)
Halftime: Alhambra-Union 18-7
