This van has an engine and wheels, and it still goes, but it is missing one of the essentials for modern transportation - seats.

A Dunedin Rugby Football Club van was broken into last week and the culprits took the three seats, designed to seat nine people, from the rear of the vehicle.

The club has three vans in operation to cart players to and from training at Kettle Park and to games on Saturday.

With the club season about to begin, the vans, which have been parked off the road over the summer months, were sent for a warrant of fitness and general tidy-up.

The 1992 Toyota Hiace van was parked overnight on the side of the road in Mornington with its seats not bolted in because it was being cleaned up.

Last Friday, club committee member John Kennedy went to check the van, opened up the side door and noticed the seats had gone.

The seats were of no real use to anyone else, he said, and the club was having difficulty trying to source replacements.

Kennedy believed more than one person was involved in the theft and said it was disappointing for the club.
