There were mixed results for the New Zealand players at the World Open squash tournament in Rotterdam this morning.
Kiwi No 1 Martin Knight (Wellington) came back from two sets down to beat Czech Republic's Jan Koukal 3-11 4-11 11-8 11-8 11-8 in one hour 34 minutes to move into the second round. He will now face Egypt's Hisham Ashour, who is currently ranked 15th in the world.
Auckland's Campbell Grayson, the world's 61st-ranked player who came through qualifying, gave former world champion and current world No 2 Ramy Ashour (Egypt) a scare before going down 11-9 14-12 11-5.
Waikato's Kylie Lindsay had to play a third match to make the main draw of the women's singles and was defeated by Egypt's Nour el Sherbini 11-7 11-9 11-4.
Kiwi women's No 1 Joelle King, who is the 10th seed in the main draw, is set to play a qualifier Gaby Huber (Switzerland) in the first round. She's seeded to meet second seed Jenny Duncalf from England in the second round. Jaclyn Hawkes is up against India's Dipika Palikal early on Wednesday morning.
