Dunedin swimmer Steve Prescott cannot be stopped. He keeps on breaking New Zealand masters records.
Prescott (60) was the most successful swimmer at last weekend's New Zealand masters championships at Moana Pool.
He broke four records in the men's aged 60 to 64 grade to add to his collection.
His records were in the 200m butterfly (2min 42sec), 400m individual medley (5min 48sec), 200m breaststroke (3min 05sec) and 800m freestyle (10min 08sec).
All the records were held by Barry Young (Auckland), who set 43 masters world records - 31 long-course and 12 short-course - during his career. Young was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in its class of masters in 2010.
Prescott, who is coached by Gennadiy Labara, will have his own chances to make his mark on the international scene when he competes at the world masters swimming championships in Montreal in August.
Prescott will compete in the pool and also in the open-water swims in Montreal.
He has won the harbour swim at the New Zealand Masters Games in Dunedin eight times.
He will be joined by Richard Jongens, who was in dominant form in the men's aged 45 to 49 grade at the weekend.
The Dunedin Masters Swim Club dominated the national championships and won the award for being the most successful club at the weekend.
The South Island team dominated the regional relays.
Dunedin swimmers dominated the open 50m freestyle sprints, Kieran Garbutt winning the men's event and Stephanie Laughton the women's race.
Forbes Sonntag was the most successful older swimmer and won three freestyle events in the men's aged 80 to 84 grade. Sonntag won the 50m (39.09sec), 100m (1min 39sec) and 200m (3min 39sec).
However, he was not able to break his own records in the 50m and 100m.
