Stones and ice were the two main topics of conversation at the Maniototo International Curling Rink on Saturday afternoon when about 40 members and families gathered to celebrate 75 years of curling for the Ranfurly Curling Club.

There to help celebrate the occasion was the club's oldest member, Jim Becker. He was joined by his family, with four generations present for the celebratory dinner. But before the food was served, the stones were brought out and Tam O'Shanters in club colours were donned as members took to the ice for some friendly games.

The club's first meeting was held on August 11, 1933.

Organiser Peter Becker said it was great to see many of the old members attending.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of life memberships to Peter Becker (presented by his son and club president James Becker), Tom Elder (presented by past president Tom Faulkner) and Brian Kearney (presented by another past president, his son Tony Kearney).
