'No fuss' at 102

Ettrick woman Lily Gall has more life experience than most.

Miss Gall celebrated her 102nd birthday at home in the Teviot Valley yesterday.

She declined an interview with the Otago Daily Times, preferring a "no fuss" day.

Miss Gall was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to nursing after managing the children's ward of the Gore Hospital.

Two years after retiring from nursing in 1972, she moved to Ettrick to nurse her younger sister, who later died.
