Japan meets Palmerston in Cultural Extravaganza

Sixteen Japanese pupils from Nichidai Third Junior High School took part in last week's annual Cultural Extravaganza presented by East Otago High School pupils. Nichidai High School pupils have visited the school annually over the past four years.

The 16-day stay each year is used for English language development and an introduction to East Otago and Dunedin attractions including visits to the Moeraki Boulders, the Oceana gold mine at Macraes, the albatross colony at Taiaroa Head and a visit to Cadbury's chocolate factory.

The Japanese pupils stayed with East Otago families.

The two performances of the East Otago High School Cultural Extravaganza in the DG Murray Hall on Thursday were well-attended.

McKenzie House pupils won the interhouse competition by one point.

The Cultural Extravaganza featured songs, wearable art, and dances.

An art auction raised $778 for school funds.
