Fish and Game Otago says it intends to develop a large
wetland at Henley.
Fish and Game owns the area, known as the Takitoa Wetland,
chief executive Niall Watson said.
The area's rough pasture was suited to the development of a
diverse wetland habitat.
"It would, in turn, provide [a home for] wildlife and
additional recreational hunting."
Fish and Game had decided it wanted to develop the area's
full potential and had asked staff to factor in additional
wetland development into next year's work plan.
The proposal had been mooted for some time but was becoming a
reality now Fish and Game had finalised land holdings and
completed boundary adjustments, Mr Watson said.
As a stream ran through the low-lying area, it would require
complex engineering advice to develop.
It was estimated the plans would cost about $50,000, with
$14,000 needed for the preliminary design work.
