Quad-bike death inquest to resume

The family of an Alexandra teenager who died more than two years ago may finally get some answers next week when his inquest resumes.

Luke Zion McCrostie (18) died on March 17, 2007 when the quad bike he was riding slammed into a wall during an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) demonstration at the Central Speedway in Cromwell.

The inquest into his death inquest began on November 27 last year, but was adjourned by Coroner Alan Macalister until a report from Motorcycle New Zealand safety commissioner Murray Perry was available.

Yesterday, Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said Mr Macalister would reopen the inquest next Monday in Queenstown.

Also to be examined by Mr Macalister is the death of Fenton William Tisdall (29), who died after a motorcycle accident near Cromwell on December 31, 2006.

Mr Tisdall, a Royal New Zealand Air Force engineer, based in Auckland, was travelling from Wanaka when he was thrown from his bike after travelling 200m across country before hitting a drainage ditch, just past the intersection of State Highways 8B and 6.

His body was found four days later.

Mr Tisdall grew up in Lawrence and completed a mechanic's apprenticeship in Dunedin before joining the air force.

He was based at Whenuapai, near Auckland, in 2001.

Snr Const Blackford said Mr Tisdall's inquest had not been held earlier due to ongoing investigations.
