Creative faces of learning

Technology classes help children learn to embrace innovation, South Otago High School technology teacher Christine Elder says.

''You want kids to go away and be proud of their work, and to be innovative.''

Pupils also developed problem-solving skills, she said.

The high school is one of 12 schools across the country participating in the Beacon Practice programme. Mrs Elder said it helped develop resources for other technology teachers, as projects and outcomes were shared online with them.

More than 100 pupils from 10 South Otago schools take technology classes at South Otago High School. Year 7 pupils planned, designed and made masks as part of the programme.
