Tenants' satisfaction rises

More tenants of Clutha District Council housing units are happier with their flats than in the past, findings of the 2008 annual survey reveal.

Just under half of the 98 tenants responded to the survey and seemed to be more satisfied then ever with their unit.

Last year's survey showed 30% rated their units as very good but this year, that figure jumped to 38.3% while the number who gave their units a rating of "good" rose from 5.5% to 27.6%.

The number of those who said their unit was satisfactory doubled from 17.5% to 34.15.%The exterior of units and their surrounding lawns and gardens seemed to attract the weakest support, while areas that found favour were their living areas and kitchens.

Most of the residents' concerns are expected to be addressed as the council embarks on a heating and modernisation programme which includes the installation of heat pumps in each unit, plus upgrades of ovens, bathrooms and other features.
