Welsh rugby team members (top, from left) John Yapp, Dan Biggar, Jamie Roberts, Adam Jones, Stephen Jones, Ken Owens, and Mike Phillips appreciate the musical welcome from the Royal Dunedin Male Choir (above, right) at Dunedin International Airport yesterday.
The invasion of black earlier this week at Dunedin International Airport changed to a blood-red hue yesterday, with the Welsh rugby team's arrival for its test against the All Blacks at Carisbrook tomorrow.

Piped in by the RSA Taieri Pipe Band to Land of My Fathers, then serenaded by the Royal Dunedin Male Choir singing Welsh hymn Gwahoddiad, the team should have felt at home.

A smattering of fans also welcomed them.

Jan Campbell, who moved to Dunedin from Wales 10 years ago and was a "big rugby fan", would be supporting her homeland.

Her Kiwi husband Duncan had been caught up and turned.

"My husband is going for the Welsh this weekend," Jan said.

As the players waited for their luggage, Mrs Campbell got a chance to meet her heroes.

"We can't wait till Saturday," she told them.

Coach Warren Gatland said his team felt "privileged to be here" for the last All Blacks test at Carisbrook.

Asked if he felt confident his team could leave the ground with a winning smile, he said: "I don't know about confident."

"I was very impressed with the All Blacks last week."

Gatland also gave his views on playing under a roof, as rugby teams playing in Dunedin's new stadium will from next year.

The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff has a retractable roof, and was designed by Populous, a company that has worked on the Forsyth Barr Stadium.

"The boys absolutely love it," Gatland said.
