St Clair home wins four awards

Dunedin man Michael Stevenson's design of a St Clair home has won four categories in the Otago-Southland regional design awards.

Announced last night in Dunedin, the ADNZ/Resene Otago-Southland Regional Design Awards were judged over 13 categories, including residential, commercial and interior projects and a new category, the sustainable design award.

They were judged by McKenzie Architects' John McKenzie, University of Otago design studies lecturer Gavin O'Brien and Dunedin Resene Colourshop's Jo Parry.

The St Clair home entered by Mr Stevenson, of Stevenson Building Design, won the new single dwelling over 250sq m, the kitchen/bathroom category, residential interiors and roof awards.

Mike Sowman, of Mike Sowman Architectural Design, won the new single dwelling up to 250sqm for a Brighton home and the distinctive design award for a Queenstown home.

He was also co-winner of the special projects award.

Richard Oliver Architectural Designer's project, the Mission Cove Chapel on Otago Peninsula, won both the residential multi-unit dwelling and the residential alterations and additions categories.

The sustainable design award was won by Richard Wilden for his design of a home at Aramoana which needed to be free of toxins and able to be relocated in the event of sea level rise.

All winners of regional awards go through to the national awards to be judged in September or October.

Photographs and full results will appear in tomorrow's Otago Daily Times.
