Residents were presented with 16 beautifully crafted quilts on Friday.
They were the first batch made by the Blue Willow Quilters group members for the rest-home residents, group member Yvonne Reid said.
Resthaven Village manager Margaret O'Connor was so delighted with the quilts she planned to host an exhibition of them at the rest-home before distributing them among residents, she said.
The quilters will make a total of 60 quilts for the residents, Mrs Reid said.
The group, which started about two years ago, enjoyed producing the multi-coloured quilts in myriad designs, she said.
The group meets at the Gore Baptist Church every Thursday and attracts between four and 12 quilters to its sessions.
Mrs Reid said she was extremely appreciative of the many people who had donated fabric for the project.
She also praised the generosity of Te Anau business Pansy Patch.
‘‘They [Pansy Patch] sent a huge amount of fabric,'' Mrs Reid said.
It was obvious when looking at some of the quilts who they would suit, Mrs O'Connor said.
‘They are all different, they are all lovely,'' she said. ‘‘Some of the quilts tell you who they are for.''
Some of the brightly coloured quilts would suit those residents who were visually impaired while others with delicate designs might evoke memories, she said.
The quilters spent many hours producing the quilts. It took about two hours to cut the material, eight hours for sewing, four hours for quilting and two to three hours to pin each quilt.
