Hawea Community Association (HCA) said it was bitterly disappointed the behaviour of campers had not improved this summer and the area had been ruined by the sight of human waste and other litter.
"The community is very concerned that the pristine lake, their water supply, is threatened," said HCA president Rachel Brown.
"Visitors come and enjoy the spectacular clear water and clean beaches and then crap all over it."
She said many campervans did not have toilets and campers did not seem to know how to deal with their waste.
She said Queenstown Lakes District Council's new mayor Vanessa van Uden had agreed to visit the lake next week to see how bad the problem was.
