Copthorne hotel administrator Natalie McAuliffe, also co-ordinator of environmental projects, said when she read the Queenstown Times report about Queenstown Primary pupils earning an Enviroschool bronze award, she decided to get the Copthorne hotels to encourage them, as the company has three properties awarded Qualmark Enviro-Gold status.

The company donated the portable "hungry bin" pictured for use as an additional worm farm.

Two pupils from each class in years 2 and 3 are responsible, on rotation, for feeding it with scraps.

An enviro group meets at lunchtimes and about 30 pupils will visit Copthorne worm farms at the beginning of term 4, teacher Nicky Gray said.
