A chief executive described as being experienced in building relationships with government, businesses and the community has taken the top job at Queenstown Airport.
The Queenstown Airport Corporation announced yesterday the appointment of Scott Paterson as its chief executive. He replaces Steve Sanderson, who is leaving to become chief executive of Wellington Airport.
Chairman John Gilks said in a statement yesterday board members were attracted by Mr Paterson's track record in chief executive and senior management roles in Australian and New Zealand seaports.
"Scott has wide experience in the infrastructure and transport businesses and in project management," he said.
Mr Paterson was previously chief executive of Port of Portland in Victoria, Australia, for four years.
He was credited with helping to transform the port by renewing relationships with government, business and a small community by building and demonstrating the port's contribution to the region's economies.
He was chairman of the Committee for Portland and oversaw the planning, funding and customer needs to promote investment in the Port of Portland and its region.
Before his time in Australia, Mr Paterson was general manager of logistics at the Ports of Auckland for four years.
His other positions have included roles within the Fletcher Building group, including as general manager of Dimond Industries, Cyclone and Winston Aggregates.
He has worked for Ernst and Young as a consultant responsible for mergers and acquisitions.
"I'm looking forward to the challenges of this new role and to continuing the spectacular growth Queenstown Airport has experienced in recent years for the benefit of the entire region," Mr Paterson said in a statement.
He holds law and commerce degrees from the University of Auckland and he is an associated chartered accountant.
Mr Paterson begins his new position on March 1.
