The sudden death of 36-year-old Wanaka man Craig Littlejohn will be investigated by the coroner, after the married father of two collapsed inside the Wanaka pharmacy after a visit to the Aspiring Medical Centre.

Mr Littlejohn was a popular figure in Wanaka's hospitality industry, managing lakefront bars the Alehouse and the Trout.

Wanaka police were called to try to resuscitate Mr Littlejohn when he collapsed on Sunday.

It is understood he died of a heart attack and was in the pharmacy to order a prescription, after visiting the doctors to be examined for pain in his chest, back and shoulder.

Wanaka Pharmacy owner Aaron Heath said staff had helped with resuscitation attempts.

He could not comment about the prescription Mr Littlejohn had been given because of patient confidentiality.

An approach to Aspiring Medical Centre by the Otago Daily Times for information regarding Mr Littlejohn's visit was declined.

Otago Southland coroner David Crerar said a provisional postmortem report had been carried out, but would not be publicly available until the completion of an investigation into the circumstances and cause of Mr Littlejohn's sudden death.

A funeral service is to be held for Mr Littlejohn at the St Columba's Anglican Church in Wanaka, tomorrow.
