From carrots to camp chairs and bits and bobs of just about anything - if wind passes through it, multi-instrumentalist Linsey Pollak can play it.
The Australian musician and performance artist brought his talents to the Festival of Colour in Wanaka yesterday, where he delighted audiences with his ability to make music from the most unlikely of instruments.
Using everything from rubber kitchen gloves and irrigation hoses, which he used to create the "Aussie kitchen-glove bagpipe", to feather dusters and watering cans, Mr Pollack is like a DIY version of the Pied Piper. He has toured solo-performance shows for more than 20 years and his Passing Wind has been a hit at recent arts festivals in Auckland and Wellington.
Having made flutes, panpipes, clarinets and even a "Foonki" out of pipes, hoses and balloons, he says his next show might explore musical themes from the wide world of sports.
"Why not? I'm thinking you could make all sorts of music using tennis racquets, baseball bats and even balls of all shapes and sizes for instruments," he said.
