A 13-year-old Wanaka snowboarder remained in Dunedin Hospital yesterday, being treated for alcohol poisoning.
The boy's mother said yesterday he was starting to feel better and she hoped they might be able to go home in the next two days.
She referred all other questions to Snowsports NZ chief executive Ross Palmer.
The boy was found unconscious by his team manager in a dormitory hallway of Base Backpackers, where a 33-strong group of teenagers was staying as part of a pre-season Snowsports NZ snowboard camp on Saturday night.
He is regarded as a prospect for the 2014 Winter Olympics and is one of a handful of junior snowboarders included in the Winter Olympics high performance training programme.
Constable Greg Nolet, of Wanaka, said yesterday the alcohol was allegedly stolen by other teenagers, who have been referred to youth aid.
It would be at least two weeks before charges, if any, would be laid, he said.
