Boy out of hospital

The Wanaka boy at the centre of a drinking episode had been discharged from Dunedin Hospital and was feeling "OK", his mother said when contacted yesterday. The family was travelling back to Wanaka last night.

Four teenage snowboarders at a Snowsports New Zealand camp are being investigated by the police youth aid team for allegedly stealing about six boxes of Jagermeister (about 24 bottles) on Saturday night from the Mint Bar.

The Mint Bar is in the same building as Base Backpackers, where 33 camp participants were staying.

Police do not believe the 13-year-old boy was involved in the theft, but say he later consumed the contents of a 700ml bottle of Jagermeister (19 standard drinks) in about 30 minutes, before falling into a life-threatening coma.
