Five people have been injured after an e-scooter caught fire in a Christchurch house on Sunday night.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said they received multiple calls about the blaze at the property in Smith St, Woolston, about 11.10pm.
Three fire trucks from the Woolston and Christchurch City stations were called to the scene.
"Upon further investigation, it was confirmed one electric scooter was on fire in the house," the spokesperson said.
They said it was not clear if the scooter was charging at the time of blaze.
The fire was extinguished and the last crew left the scene about 1.10am.
St John treated five patients at the scene, all in minor condition. Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Fire and Emergency NZ has been trying to build awareness of the fire risks associated with charging lithium-ion devices such as e-bikes, e-scooters, vapes and power tools.
It advises people to check their charging cords are not frayed, damaged or modified, to charge e-scooters and e-bikes away from doors to keep exits accessible, and to charge them away from living spaces.
