Police have named the victims of a crash at Kekerengu, near Kaikōura.
They were Philip Donald Wightman, 67, and Suzanne Elizabeth Watson, 58, of Southland.
The crash happened on Thursday, March 28 on State Highway 1.
It closed the highway for about 7 hours.
Two other people suffered moderate injuries in the two-vehicle crash.
Police extended their condolences to the family and friends of the victims.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
