One of the new cases is in the same travel bubble as a case reported on Sunday who tested positive while in hospital in Auckland for a non-Covid related condition.
The new case is a person who arrived from Zambia on a United Arab Emirates flight on February 2. The Ministry of Health said today as that person was a close contact, they had already moved to an Auckland quarantine facility.
The other new case is a person that arrived from France on a United Arab Emirates flight on February 4.
The total number of active cases is 67, while the number of confirmed cases is 1966. Labs have processed 1,565,107 tests to date.
Meanwhile, 60 people formerly housed at the Pullman are now self-isolating across New Zealand, as they undergo an interim measure to stem any possibility of the virus spreading from the MIQ facility.
Health authorities are still working out how the highly contagious South African strain managed to spread among returnees at the Pullman in recent weeks.
The hotel has been temporarily closed for a deep clean.
Neither of today's cases are linked to the Pullman.
Yesterday the country enjoyed a rare reprieve, with the Ministry of Health reporting no new cases of Covid-19 either in the community or in managed isolation.
Historical cases
From today, the Ministry of Health said its updates will include a running total of historical cases to date for 2021.
"This is because there is an increasing number of people becoming infected and recovering before travelling to New Zealand. Our testing may detect residual viral material in people's systems, but it's important to reiterate they are no longer considered to be infectious.
"We've previously stated that an increase in historical cases is not unexpected."
Since January 1, there have been 25 historical cases, out of a total of 156 cases. These historical cases have all been previously reported, the ministry said.
The NZ COVID Tracer now has 2,560,447 registered users.
