The team showed good all-round strength winning medals in both sweeping and sculling, across all grades from novice to seniors.
Senior rower Josh Bartlett set the scene with an impressive win in the men’s club single sculls in a large field of 40 top rowers.
Josh won another gold in the men’s club coxless quad with team-mates Blake Parker, Ben Allan and Payo O’Sullivan. Payo and Ben also won the men’s club coxless four with Luke Tomkins and Mac Brown.
A strong novice team, made up of Luc Todd, George Talbot, Reuben Brown and Cooper Gordon, led down the course by coxswain Ned Brown, delivered another standout performance winning gold in the men’s novice quad.
The novice crews continued their medal haul with George and Tim winning silver in the boys’ under-15 double sculls and George, Luc, Reuben and Harry Shearer coxed by Toby Connor winning bronze in the men’s novice coxed four.
Manager Simon O’Sullivan said it was great to see the continued success of the senior boys, and very pleasing to see the success of the new group of young novice rowers who have started this year. Outside of the medals the hard work of the entire team resulted in multiple top 10 finishes. The quality coaching team of Liam Parker, Jamie Harrison and head coach Brian Smith is again proving a strength.
The team is now looking forward to building up to the South Island Secondary Schools regatta in early March followed by the Maadi Cup, which will be held in Twizel in late March.
