Katrina (Hillery) Harrison (33) full time mum/sheep and beef farmer and Nigel Harrison (31) sheep and beef farmer - Owaka, South Otago

When and Where did you meet?

We met in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia whilst out dirt bike riding with friends in 2008. I'm Australian and Nigel is a kiwi.

The proposal

I first moved over to NZ with our first child and I was in my last trimester with our second child when I arrived in New Zealand in November and Nigel later in December. 27/12/13 it was a cold windy day, but because we hadn't seen each other for some time, we decided to go for a walk to Surat Bay beach that runs off the farm, I had no idea that a proposal was in the air. As we got to the beach it was so windy, we walked a little down the sand and Nigel turned around and said "I have a question for you", I though Oh gee sounds serious. He then got down on one knee, "Kat will you be my wife, will you marry me?" I was shaking and said "Yes of course I will". Lots of cuddles after that, then we walked home and shared the news with everyone.

When and where was the wedding?

6 February, 2016 on the family farm, Surat Bay, Newhaven, Owaka, South Otago. Ceremony overlooking Cannibal Bay and reception in our woolshed.

Why did you choose the venue?

We chose the venue as it meant something special to Nigel and family as Nigel is 4th generation on the farm. Also to cut costs of hiring a wedding venue elsewhere.

The dresses and suits

Wedding dress was from Grace Loves Lace, head piece from Deloris Petunia California. Bridesmaid dress was brought off trade me. Flower Girl dress was bought off a friend who got that from California. Suits were swan-dri pants and shirt. Tie and vest were from Hallensteins.

The caterers

Barbeque Bill was our main cater. We had friends of the family from Owaka doing our nibbles. Family members from Bluff bought up wonderful seafood as well. The local Lions Club in Owaka also helped with the bar and a few other things.

Highlight of the day

The whole day was the hightlight. Family members, friends travelled from Western Australia to share our special day. It was a magical day full of laughter and love!

Our photographer

Angela Wylie of Owaka. All the wedding photos are so outstanding, it's so hard to choose a favourite!
