Rail bridge may carry bikes

Work continues on construction of a new rail bridge over the Waikouaiti River bridge near Karitane.

 

It is hoped a cycleway will be clipped on to the KiwiRail bridge, with the group behind a proposed trail north of Dunedin less than$10,000 away from having enough funding to get a clip-on preliminary design done.

 

The bridge clip-on is the key piece for the section of the proposed trail that is between Waikouaiti and Karitane.

 

The broader aim is to provide an off-road walking and cycling path connecting coastal communities, including Warrington and Waitati, connecting through to Port Chalmers.
