A 54-year-old man admitted charges of rape and injuring with
intent to injure during an appearance in Whanganui District
Court yesterday.
The man, who was granted interim name suppression to protect
the identity of his victim and children, was due to be tried
this week, but he pleaded guilty to amended charges before a
jury could be impanelled.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on April 11.
The rape occurred on February 16, 2011, while the injuring
with intent to injure charge relates to offending in January
2009. Both offences took place in Wanganui.
