Heavy rain throughout the Wellington region has triggered flash flooding, affecting roads.
Police this afternoon asked motorists to be alert for flooding across roads and "drive to the conditions".
Wellington City Council staff and contractors were working to clear roads of debris, police added.
Areas affected this afternoon included State Highway 2 north of Upper Hutt, State Highway 2 in Lower Hutt, State Highway 1 near Johnsonville, Main Road Tawa and other residential areas throughout the region.
