Dunne admits speeding ticket

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne has outed himself as having a speeding fine, ahead of a release of information from Ministerial Services.

Last year Newstalk ZB sought, and was declined, details on speeding infringements incurred by Ministers in their self-drive cars, and also GPS data for travel habits of the Crown Limousines.

That decision was appealed to the Ombudsman, who it appears may have ordered the release of the information.

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne appears to be pre-empting the information release, admitting somewhat tongue-in-cheek, that he was caught twice on the same day back in March 2013 doing 55km/h in a 50km/h speed zone.

"Oh I'm deeply shocked," he said. "I have been taking counselling because this is a very serious state of affairs and I'm just ashamed of the fact that you've exposed me as a serial traffic offender."

Mr Dunne said he paid for the fines out of his own pocket.

After being interviewed by a Fairfax reporter on the speeding fines, Mr Dunne tweeted that she was "mad". On the way to question time, he apologised for any offence caused by that label, but continued to poke fun at questioning on the speeding.
