Food prices continue to soar and Alexandra Parents’ Centre gave two people the chance to slash their costs while raising funds.

A raffle for two chances to grab up to $500 worth of groceries in a dash around Alexandra New World raised funds for the Parent’s Centre car seat hire service and filled two pantries.

Both winners elected a proxy to do the running — Courtney Mudgway chose husband Alain and Paul Aaderson selected his son Joe Mugford.

The men set off on Monday morning filling their trolleys in record time.

Alexandra Parents’ Centre spokeswoman Nicola Rae said it was great to see two families benefit from the event.

"It was a lot of fun. I am sure we will do it again."

Car seat co-ordinator Courtney Winstanley said they had 30 car seats for hire ranging from newborns right up to 8-9-year-olds.

"Thanks to this fundraiser, we have been able to purchase two booster seats, which we haven’t had available in the past, as well as two more seats to replace those that have expired."

Hire can be arranged from two weeks up to one year, she said.

Car seats are installed by a qualified car seat technician to make sure they are safe.
