Feedback sought on sale of land

Anyone concerned about the Southern District Health Board's proposed disposal of 4.8211ha of land behind staff accommodation in Kew Rd, Invercargill, has until tomorrow to make a submission.

Board general manger of finance and funding Robert Mackway-Jones said the vacant land was considered surplus to board requirements.

Some years ago the area, part of three titles, had trees on it which the board milled, but it was now scrub.

It was behind houses the board used as locum accommodation and for temporary housing for staff transferring into the area.

The land has been valued, but Mr Mackway-Jones said he was not prepared to disclose the figure since it could be up for sale, if that was the board's eventual decision.

It is expected a recommendation on the matter will go to the board at its meeting next month.

Mr Mackway-Jones said at this stage there was no other board land identified as surplus, although some thought needed to be given to the large amount of land at the Southland site at some point.

Before disposing of any land the board is required to consult the community.
