"There are a few shortcuts to happiness, but one of them is dancing."

That is how production secretary and cast member Bruce McPherson describes the Gore Repertory Society’s play A Shortcut to Happiness.

The production will have its first of seven showings on Friday night.

Mr McPherson said members of the cast had been rehearsing since February.

"Long and hard hours.

"But quite a lot of improvement.

"It’s coming together very well."

All of the cast were local, and some were performing with the society for the first time, he said.

"It’s Victoria Kelly’s and Karen Bellows’ first time in Gore Repertory Society."

Mr McPherson will play Ned in the show.

The play was written by Sir Roger Hall and the director is Annette Ainge.

"[Annette] has directed many shows for Gore Repertory Society. She works really hard and is a perfectionist," Mr McPherson said.

"The results of that will show."

This would be the sixth play by Hall that the society had performed, he said.

It was a play that could be enjoyed by anyone and everyone, he said.

"It’s a light-hearted comedy about Kiwi life."

He said the story of the play was written in 2012.

"[It’s] a fun, light-hearted night out, where everyone will recognise at least one of the characters from their own life."

Tickets can be brought online or at the SBS St James Theatre.

The seven shows would be played at the Little Theatre, 2 Richmond St.

The first show will be on Friday and the finale on May 19.

There will also be two Sunday matinee performances.
