A cricket fan plans to upgrade his car for a ute after becoming the second person to pocket $100,000 from grabbing a one-handed catch.

Jatinder Singh, 22, from Te Aroha, caught the ball one-handed from Corey Anderson's bat in the 38th over of the second one-dayer between New Zealand and India in Hamilton, instantly earning a bumper pay day.

A promotion by Tui saw fans around the country flock to the cricket this summer wearing orange t-shirts, with the promise of $100,000 for any to take a one-handed grab.

Hamilton fan Michael Morton won $100,000 two weeks ago after making a catch in the final one-dayer between New Zealand and the West Indies.

Singh, who played cricket for Te Aroha Cobras, said he was jumping up and down after the successful catch.

"That's not me normally I'm quite reserved."

He would use the money to buy a new ute, and pay off his student loan.

"I haven't really thought it through. I'm about to start job hunting."

He said there was an "nervous moment" when he checked whether he was wearing the required lanyard.

"I had it inside my shirt, dunno how, but this guy put his hand into my shirt [to pull it out]. I was like 'what are you doing?' but he was actually helping me out.

"It's all confirmed though. Took about an hour or so. I was still buzzing because initially they said it'd take 24 hours to confirm but they came back in couple of hours and said it's all good."

He said he probably owed his mate Dexter a commission because for picking the spot where they sat. "I said 'if you're ever around, you won't have to buy a beer again'."
