Hockey: Black Sticks draw with Malaysia

New Zealand drew their second match with hosts Malaysia 1-1 at the under 21 men's hockey Sultan of Johor Cup tournament early today.

For both teams it was an opportunity to get a first win at the tournament, having suffered opening round losses.

Malaysia went ahead with a goal from a smart set piece at a penalty corner in the 12th minute, through Mohammad Najmi Jazlan.

New Zealand failed to capitalise on two first half penalty corners but got level in the 49th minute with a well-struck shot by Ben Radovonich.

Two late penalty corner chances for New Zealand went begging late in the match.

New Zealand play Australia in their third game on Wednesday night.
